The Human Rights Program Associate will work with US Mexico Border Program Staff and Volunteers. The primary task of the Human Rights Program Associate will be to establish and maintain a system that compiles, tracks and analyzes civil and human rights abuse cases and trends in order to advocate for changes in policy that will advance human rights concerns as detailed in the US Mexico Border Program Work Plan. The Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) provides strategic and creative leadership in the region and works with staff to give regional expression to broader organizational goals and is accountable for the implementation of the strategic plan of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). The Regional Director is the primary spokesperson for the region, interpreting its programs and communicating the principles expressed by the work of the AFSC.
The Senior Staff Attorney will be part of the Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative a publicly-funded project that provides representation for immigrants in removal proceedings, including people in detention and people who are living in their communities. The Senior Staff Attorney is responsible for: direct legal representation; supporting and mentoring staff attorneys and legal assistants in a specialized area; and participation in statewide and nationwide advocacy activities.
