About AFSC Florida

AFSC Florida is a femme-led, multi-racial, trilingual, and intergenerational movement building organization that coordinates programs focused on Immigrant Justice, Immigration Legal Services, and Just Economies. In addition, we have a vibrant youth program, Seeds of Resistance, that organizes frontline youth to defend their immigrant families and trains them to become leaders in the climate justice movement. Our staff along with our adult and youth members work to advance justice in Florida. Together with our organizational partners, we coordinate local, statewide, and national campaigns to demand the fair treatment of all immigrants and build collective power.

We co-lead and promote The Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival in Florida that is uniting people across the state to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation, and the nation's distorted morality of religious nationalism. We also accompany Quakers and other faith-based leadership to advocate, mobilize, and organize their base to stand in solidarity with immigrants towards a shared vision of collective liberation.

Programs

Immigrant Justice

We fight for a state where immigrants have the power to determine their lives and the opportunity to thrive. Our current efforts include human rights abuses monitoring at the ICE Miramar Facility, immigrant-led organizing to shut down Glades Detention Center and providing Community IDs to all people that lack a proper identification. Also, every year we mobilize with the Florida Immigrant Coalition for the "We Are Florida" statewide campaign, that promotes the legislative priorities for immigrant families and workers in Tallahassee. We advocate for permanent protection, just immigration policies, TPS, and to #FreeThemAll from detention.

Immigration Legal Services

We provide experienced immigration and naturalization legal services to Haitian immigrants and refugees in the areas of Citizenship Assistance, Adjustment of Status, Residence Card Renewal, Work Permit, DACA, TPS, Re-entry Permit and Affidavit of Support. We strive to deliver high-quality work and client communication in an efficient, accurate and timely manner in Haitian Creole and French. Our program also focuses on providing advocacy trainings on policy issues that will advance the rights and protection for all immigrants and refugees.

Just Economies

We demand that all migrant farmworkers have access to food, healthcare, labor protections, and permanent immigration status. We support the campaigns of farmworker-led organizations, such as The Farmworker Association of Florida, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Guatemalan-Maya Center and amplify their voices and power. Additionally, we provide farmworkers with mutual aid in the form of food boxes, cash assistance, personal protective equipment, masks, COVID-19 testing and vaccines as a way to thank them for their essential work. We are proud members of the National Farmworker Ministry.
