Advancing peacebuilding

Peace and security can never be achieved through violence. AFSC works to build societies that divest from militarism, organized political violence and state violence—and invest in alternatives that enable sustainable peace, open civic space, and prioritize human dignity and rights. Not only do we implement  peacebuilding and humanitarian service programs in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East, we also work to transform militarized approaches to conflict and violence with peaceful, people-centered solutions globally.

Campaigns and Programs

In the U.S., AFSC supports efforts to change government policies and corporate/institutional practices that support inequality, the occupation, and denial of refugees’ rights. In the region, AFSC challenges the fragmentation of Palestinian society and the militarization of Israeli society to call for full equality between Palestinians and Israelis.

AFSC's Under the Mask project explores the alarming increase in restrictions on civic space around the world, worsening during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how individuals and organizations are responding to protect that space.

The Investigate project works to expose corporate involvement in state violence and to promote standards for corporate social responsibility and respect for human rights.
