The American Friends Service Committee calls for an immediate end to U.S. military action in Syria, an international arms embargo to stop the flow of weapons to the region, and immediate action to increase humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees. The U.S. cannot claim moral authority after acting to close its borders, waging decades of war feeding cycles of violence in the Middle East, and killing civilians in recent air strikes on Mosul. Unilateral missile strikes on Syria only escalate the violence. If the U.S. is to play a role it must welcome refugees and work to end the war through political, not military means.
