In between teaching mosaics to middle school students and high school artist mentoring, college interns with AFSC's Youth Peacebuilding and Justice Program participated in two immigration reform demonstrations in the Chicago area in October. Interns Raul Vazquez and Alberto Lara were interviewed by the New York Times Magazine/Upfront youth magazine about immigration issues and their work at AFSC.
Also, intern Jessica Alaniz attended the Nobel Laureate Summit in Warsaw, Poland with 10 other AFSC related youth from around the world. A highlight for Jessica was to meet and be photographed with Nobel Laureate Mohammed Yunus. His social enterprise model has been used in AFSC's work creating youth employment and for community improvement. (Stay tuned for an interview with Jessica about her experience.)
