AFSC successfully advocated for $30,000 funding for local school districts to purchase from local farmers in training programs in their regions during the 2015 and 2016 legislative sessions.
The Senate and House bills allocate funding for local school districts in New Mexico to purchase from local farmers so children will have local food in their school lunches. This bill is modeled on the successful 7 year program with the Albuquerque Public Schools in which AFSC trained farmers sell local vegetables to the schools.
Thank you to the many small farmers, community partners, and NM residents who contacted their legislators to support these bills!
