Asmaa Abu Mezied and Yousef Aljamal to tour in October
We are thrilled to announce our first speaking tour since the pandemic! Light in Gaza: Imagining a Liberated Future tour will feature Asmaa Abu Mezied and Yousef Aljamal, contributors to this book (see bios below). They will speak at events in Chicago, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. Our opening event will be Monday, October 17 (doors open at 6:30 pm) at Grace Place sanctuary, 637 S. Dearborn in Chicago. Chicago community weaver and founding member of the Palestinian feminist collective, Leena Odeh will moderate the conversation. Admission is free, but Light in Gaza books will be for sale! Please plan on wearing a mask for the safety of all.
Asmaa Abu Mezied is an economic development and social inclusion specialist working to address issues of gender, development, and climate change in the agriculture sector. Her research interests focus on the care economy, women’s collectives organizing in economic sectors, the private sector’s social accountability, and the intersection of Palestinian political, agricultural, and environmental identities.
Yousef M. Aljamal is a Palestinian refugee from Al-Nusierat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. He obtained an MA degree from the Department of International and Strategic Studies Department at the University of Malaya. He is now a PhD Candidate at the Middle East Institute at Sakarya University in Turkey. Besides his research interests in diaspora, security, and indigenous studies, Yousef has contributed to a number of books which highlight the Palestinian narrative.
