Today, President Donald Trump announced that the United States will withdraw from the Iran Nuclear Deal.

“Diplomacy is fundamental to global security and the only way peace is made and held in place,” said Aura Kanegis, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). “There is no military solution to be found here, and it makes absolutely no sense to upend the hard-won Iran deal that shows every sign of working to date. Instead of stepping back from this agreement and isolating itself from the rest of the international community, the U.S. should engage in more internationally negotiated solutions like this that build peace and protect the wellbeing of all.”

AFSC is a 100-year-old Quaker organization that supported the development of the Iran deal and has long worked for peace and justice across the world.
