I am deeply delighted to share this exciting news about Governor Kasich’s recent appointments of six African immigrants into the New African Immigrants Commission in Ohio. According to the law, the commission needs 11 African commissioners to be functional. The next action for the Governor is to allocate an annual operating budget for the Office of African immigrant affairs. The commission will then recruit a Director who will in turn recruit staff  to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Office.

AFSC has been spearheading a petition campaign for the full implementation of the commission’s policies and programs. AFSC is also in the process of building capacity for African immigrants in six cities to assume their civic leadership roles and responsibilities and to lift up their voices for immigrant justice and integration in Ohio.

Thank you, Friends, for partnering with AFSC in lifting up a prophetic voice for immigrant justice in Ohio.
