5 ways to shift the narrative on Palestine

This list was developed by Ilona Kassissieh, Jennifer Bing, Mati Gomis-Perez, and Nur Abdi for their workshop, "Shifting Narratives to Bring Social Change: AFSC in Palestine, 1948 to the Present," at AFSC's 2017 Centennial summit. See this list and others from the summit online at afsc.org/5ways. Download this list as a PDF here.

1. Share our History

AFSC has a long and rich history engaging in Palestine and Israel. Share our video "100 years of building peace" and timeline on your social networks and with your community.

2. Gaza Unlocked

Help us raise awareness of the human cost of the blockade of Gaza. For over 10 years, Palestinians in Gaza have lived under an Israeli-imposed blockade that severely limits travel, trade, and everyday life for its 2 million residents. The blockade effectively bans nearly all exports from Gaza, limits imports to Gaza, and passage in and out of Gaza is severely restricted. The blockade has a devastating impact on basic human rights and dignity. Share our “Gaza Unlocked” website and educational materials, and post on social media with our “I just learned about Gaza…” sign.

3. No Way to Treat a Child

Every year the Israeli military arrests and prosecutes around 700 Palestinian children in military courts.  The “No Way to Treat a Child” campaign seeks to challenge Israel’s prolonged military occupation of Palestine by organizing and supporting an extensive network of people requesting immediate protections for Palestinian children held in Israeli military detention where ill-treatment and torture is widespread, systematic, and institutionalized. Join our advocacy efforts with members of Congress and faith leaders to secure a just and viable future for Palestinian children living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and envision a world where all children attain rights in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international standards.  For resources including videos, study guides, and advocacy talking points, visit the website
