Sonia Tuma is the regional director for the AFSC’s West region. In that role, she manages AFSC’s programming in the 13-state area covering the western third of the U.S. The work of the West region includes advocacy and organizing in support of an end to militarism, lasting and just immigration reform, an end to mass incarceration, and other social and economic justice programs.
Sonia’s academic background is in International Relations, with special focus on political economy and the interplay between nationalism and feminist movements. In addition to work with the AFSC, she has been a researcher, educator, organizer, and activist for more than 25 years.
Sonia is a trained mediator and facilitator who has worked with community groups and nonprofit organizations to develop shared visions and creative, strategic programming toward social change.
