Youth Undoing Institutional Racism and Juvenile Justice

The Community Justice Program and partners will conduct a Freedom School in the King County Juvenile Justice Center and Washington State Juvenile facilities annually. Youth Undoing Institutional Racism (YUIR) will also engage in a community organizing campaign linking racial disparities in education to the current over-incarceration of youth of color in King County, Washington. Specifically, YUIR will advocated for an ending to the use of solitary confinement of youth in Washington State, a reduction in the disproportionate tracking of youth of color into special education programs in our educational system and a multi-institutional and community based comprehensive plan to reduce all racial disparities in the Washington State Juvenile Justice System.
