AFSC, New Jersey Advocates for Immigrant Detainees, and the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic continue their collaboration and investigative projects.

"Isolated in Essex" focuses on the use of solitary confinement in the immigrant detention facilities at the Essex County Correctional Facility. The report findings are:

  1. The imposition of solitary confinement in Essex is excessive and disproportionate; 
  2. Essex employs solitary confinement in an arbitrary fashion; and 
  3. The disciplinary process for imposing solitary confiement in Essex lacks transparency and due process.
