On October 28, 2021 AFSC and 14 other church and church based organizations sent a letter to Secretary of State Blinken. In the letter we expressed our significant concerns about the recent Israeli decision to label key Palestinian human rights and civil society organizations as “terrorist organizations” and demanded that Sec. Blinken publicly oppose this move and intervene by demanding that Israel immediately reversal its decision.

The six targeted organizations are among the most respected Palestinian human rights organizations and they all work closely with the United Nations, international NGO partners, and activist communities and advocate to European and U.S. government officials.

The letter shares our concern that, if this decision remains in effect, the Israeli government can close these organizations’ offices, seize their assets, and arrest and jail their staff, and therefore asks that Sec. Blinken intervene by demanding the immediate reversal of the decision and insisting on protection for Palestinian civil society and human rights defenders.

The full letter can be read below.
