None of us should ever fear violence in our communities, especially from those supposedly charged with promoting public safety.
Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Eric Garner, and countless other Black and Brown people have died at the hands of police. Yet elected officials across the U.S. still pour our tax dollars into already bloated policing budgets—and a racist system that disproportionately targets people of color for police brutality, imprisonment, and death. At the same time, critical needs like health care and schools—as well as transformative justice initiatives—go underfunded.
Now local governments are using federal pandemic relief to expand policing. That’s money that should be used to assist those still struggling in this pandemic.
Tell your elected officials: Invest in community needs during pandemic recovery—not policing!
