Tell public officials: Protect people in prisons, jails, and detention centers from COVID-19!

No one should be subjected to inhumane conditions—not in a pandemic, not ever. But in the United States, 2.3 million people are incarcerated in prisons, jails, and immigration detention centers, where human rights abuses are rampant.

COVID-19 has multiplied the dangers of imprisonment exponentially. Facilities are often overcrowded and lack adequate access to health care, hygiene items, and protective gear. At least 428,404 people have tested positive for COVID-19—and more than 2,607 have died. Many incarcerated people are being left behind in vaccinations efforts.

Government officials must take immediate steps to create healthier, safer communities for all.

Take action today. Urge officials to release as many people as possible, allow released people to remain home in their communities, expand vaccine access, and take other steps to protect people from COVID-19.
