People fleeing violence or danger in their home countries should be welcomed into the United States with compassion, not met with overwhelming obstacles to seeking asylum.
But instead of protecting asylum seekers and expediting asylum claims, the Trump administration has implemented inhumane policies that make it even harder for migrants to seek asylum—including the "remain in Mexico" policy, which has forced more than 50,000 asylum seekers to return to Mexico while their claims are processed. There, they face dangerous situations and unacceptable living conditions, and at least 815 cases of rape, murder, and assault have been reported.
Migrants escaping violence and persecution should be able to find refuge in the U.S., not sent back to life-threatening situations. Stand with all people seeking refuge in the United States: Tell your legislators to protect asylum seekers!
