It has been 20 years since the Sept. 11 attacks. In the immediate aftermath, it became clear that this was a historical pivot point—a watershed moment that makes broad societal shifts possible.
The United States and its allies could have led the way toward a new era of global rule of law and cooperation at that moment. Instead, they chose fear and retribution, using that violent act to justify wide-ranging wars, suppress civil liberties, and spread Islamophobia in the U.S. and around the world.
Today, it’s long past time for us to change course.
Join AFSC from Sept. 7 to Sept. 10 for a virtual conference on the impacts of the global war on terror—and how we can now move toward a different future, centering the perspectives of impacted communities.
Note: This conference is invitation only and is limited to civil society and nongovernmental participants. Translation will be provided in Arabic, Spanish, and French. To request translation in other languages, please indicate when you fill out the registration form.
