In early 2020, tensions between the U.S. and Iran reached a fever pitch, and people took to the streets to say "No war with Iran!"
Tensions between the two countries have continuously risen over the last four years. The U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, the assassination of General Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike, and draconian sanctions on Iran have all increased the threat of war significantly.
AFSC and many other organizations supported the legislation that would have reasserted Congress’ war powers authorities and stopped military actions by the executive branch without congressional authorization. Unfortunately, President Trump vetoed that legislation.
Congress must take action to ensure that no president is ever able to unilaterally move the U.S. into a war—and to stop endless wars by strengthening and using congressional war powers.
Take action: Tell Congress to do everything in their power to stop the president from unilaterally entering into wars!
