Since June of 1990, AFSC and the Intermountain Yearly Meeting (IMYM) of the Religious Society of Friends have conducted a special form of discovery and service involving youth and adults. Our projects are designed to connect small, intergenerational groups (ages 14 and up and not limited to Friends) with the work of AFSC in the U.S. Southwest and Mexico which overlap within the IMYM. more >

Mexico Summer Project 2008
Now in its 68th year, the Mexico Summer Project brings together youth from diverse communities to live with Indigenous peoples in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, Mexico. The Mexico Summer Project offers youth interested in issues of social justice and sustainable development, a seven week, mind-blowing experience to witness and learn from different lifestyles, experience community and create change. The project is organized and carried out in collaboration with our partner organization in Mexico City, Service, Development and Peace, A.C. (SEDEPAC) and the United Indigenous Nahualt and Totonaca (UNITONA) in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, Mexico.

China Summer Work Camp
The China Summer Workcamp begins in Beijing, one of the most developed cities in the world for a few days of sightseeing. Participants will then travel to the Hunan province in rural central China, one of the most remote areas left on the Asian continent. For three weeks, participants will join Chinese, Korean and Japanese volunteers in teaching English and environmental studies to local children. There will be regular days off for participants to visit nearby towns, tour a local market, go on hikes and have an overnight homestay with a city family. The Workcamp concludes with a graduation ceremony for all students. more >

African Summer Workcamps 2008 – The African Great Lakes Initiative (AGLI) is a project of Friends Peace Teams (FPT). We are again sponsoring international workcamps in Burundi, Kenya, and Rwanda. A two-day pre-service training begins Sunday, June 22 at Wellspring Conference Center near Washington DC. Workcampers depart for Africa the evening of June 23 and return on July 26. Workcampers will assist with building or rebuilding clinics, schools or other community buildings.
