TRADE MATTERS UPDATE
What you need to know about the U.S. Trade Agenda and AFSC's Work
Trade played a major role in the primaries
and election, forcing President-elect Obama to
make a number of concrete promises to improve
the current trade model and reduce the negative
impacts here in the country. What is currently
missing from his trade agenda is concern about
the development needs of trade partners, among
others. AFSC looks forward to working with our
key coalition partners to engage the
Administration, advocating for a broader fix of
the trade system.

Trade and War in Colombia
Economic and military systems are closely linked. In AFSC's Trade and War web feature, you'll get details about those links, with Colombia as a case-in-point. A comprehensive report on these linkages, along wihth a slideshow on the situation in Colombia, illustrate how trade agreements and, more generally, the increasingly global economy-can spur violence and war. REGIONAL ACTIVITIES
NH Citizens Trade Policy Commission
Annual Report
AFSC
staff Arnie Alpert worked tirelessly to
establish a Citizens
Trade Policy Commission within the state
legislature. Arnie was elected Vice Chair once
the Commission was formed in July 2007. The
purpose of the Commission is to assess and
monitor the legal and economic effects of trade
agreements on state and local laws, working
conditions, and the business environment; to
provide a mechanism for citizens and
legislators to voice their concerns and
recommendations; and to make policy
recommendations designed to protect the state's
jobs, business environment, and laws from any
negative impact of trade agreements. Click
