Fair Trade Peace Pack

Buying Habits Make a Difference
The Fair Trade Peace Pack is a perfect gift to send to that person
who cares about purchasing fairly traded goods or to that person
who may need to learn more about the issue. Each Peace Pack
comes with a complete Trade
Matters education tool-kit.
Fair trade means that small producers receive fair prices for their
products, helping them build a better future for themselves and
their communities. The notion of fair trade is also about sustainable
development through the formation of cooperatives that provide equal
opportunities for women and promote environmentally friendly techniques.
This helps to reverse current trends that tend to reward the people
between the producers and consumers more than the producers themselves.
When you purchase a Fair Trade Peace Pack you are supporting two
worthy causes:
- The artisans and farmers who made the products benefit from
the fair prices they receive.
- AFSC also receives 20% toward the Trade
Matters campaign that sets out to educate and advocate
for fairer trade policy and products.
Inside the Fair Trade Peace Pack (Total Cost $40)
- Cloth Drawstring Backpack: This functional
backpack is the main element of the Peace Pack. It is created
by a women's co-op made up of former Levi Strauss sweatshop workers
called Fuerza Unida located in San Antonio, Texas.
- Trade Matters activist tool kit: Most the resources
you see on this Trade Matters website are included in
this very attractive kit.
- Drip Grind Organic Breakfast Blend Equal Exchange Coffee
(12 oz.): Equal Exchange is a worker-owned co-op that
creates and sustains honest, fair trade relations with small farmers.
The AFSC Coffee Project works by cutting out the middle people
who often profit most from the purchase of the beans.
- Scented "The Enterprising Kitchen" Handmade Glycerin
Soap (3 bars): The Enterprising Kitchen operates a light
manufacturing company which produces specialty soap products and
enables women from across Chicago to participate in an intensive,
but individually oriented workforce development program.
- Note Card and Envelope Set (2 of each): WomansCraft
is a Chicago-based paper processing company. The crafters are
women from Deborah's Place, a domestic violence shelter.
- "Water for Life Not for Profit" Nalgene Water Bottle
(32 oz.): Public goods, such as water, are those things
that society recognizes are necessary and beneficial to all. However,
international trade agreements are being constructed to facilitate
the placement of such necessities into the hands of private, for
profit, interests. Use this water bottle to drink filtered tap
water and STOP purchasing bottled water that supports the multinational
corporations driving the privatization of our public goods.
