Summer 2009 Updates

A Brownie troop participated in the seed and tree giveaway and gave out information for kids about making their homes “green.”

The annual Akwesasne seed and tree giveaway took place on April 25th.  Vegetables that were available included:  green beans, yellow wax beans, sweet corn, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, snow peas, and English peas.  All of the seeds are organic and open-pollinated (no hybrids), so that people can save seeds from their own gardens for next year.

Tree seedlings were also distributed. Available varieties included shag bark hickory, bitternut hickory, white pine, white spruce, white cedar, black ash, butternut, white oak, red oak, and black walnut.
