AFSC members and other volunteers took part in an Occupy Greensboro presentation last week at New Garden Friends Meeting. The presentation, a part of New Garden Friends’ “First Day Forum,” was coordinated by Susan Ikenberry, an active member of the Greensboro community. Susan brought in Ann Lennon, our AFSC Area Coordinator, John Wright and Bobbie Sonner, Occupy Greensboro activists, and Chandlee White, another Occupy Greensboro supporter and participant.

The presentation focused upon the history of the Occupy Together movement and other grassroots movements across the globe, motivations for participation in the movement, and non-violent influences. The presentation also examined the progression of both the Occupy movement as a whole and the internal structure that has developed here in Greensboro. An open space was created for questions and dialogue for the group following the presentation.

As supporters of the Occupy Together movement, AFSC is always pleased to participate in Occupy activities. We are excited for more opportunities assist or spread the message of engagement.
