A Letter from the Regional Director

Published: March 25, 2011

Dear Friends,

We watch in wonder as Arab youth energy erupts in an historic display of nonviolent action for justice. But I am also filled with wonder every day in the Chicago office as I watch our own youth, albeit in more quiet ways, digging in to solve the problems of our own society.

Aidan and Ashley are organizing Eyes Wide Open events on campuses to remind us that an unjust war still rages in Iraq. Adam has become a crack researcher assisting Chicago taxi drivers in gaining access to unpublished information regarding unfair taxes they are being forced to col- lect and pay out of their own pockets. Thanks to the generosity of donors, 12 students from Chicago travelled in March to Washington, D.C. for a training session with leading experts on how to organize on campuses for a just peace in Palestine. One of our apprentices, Shirien, helped to organize that conference and led a workshop. They will return and touch hundreds of lives with their words and actions.

That is a mere taste of the youth activity overflowing from the Chicago office. In these tough economic times, these small investments in youth are and will be paying huge dividends well into the future. Will you join with us in creating our own homegrown youth “revolution?” Thank you for your committed support to the next generation of peace.
