ACE Youth at Marshall University 2012

In November 2012, fifteen students from the Appalachian Center for Equality Youth Leadership Program in Logan, WV visited Marshall University.  While on campus we visited the Center for African American Students (CAAS) where the Director, Mr. Maurice Cooley, told us his personal story of being the first in his family to go to college and how much that has impacted his life and the life of his children.  We met with current Marshall students who are involved with CAAS and had opportunities to ask them questions about life on campus and learn about their academic pursuits.  After lunch in the dining hall and an extensive tour of the campus, we all sat in front of the Memorial Fountain as Mr. Cooley brought each student up one by one to hear what they learned.  Kareem said, "After today, I think I might want to go to Marshall."
