Internships for Undergraduate Students

AFSC’s STOPMAX Campaign offers academic semester and summer internships for undergraduate students in our Philadelphia office. Internships may also be avaliable in our Newark, Boston, Tucson, Ann Arbor and Oakland offices.

DESCRIPTION:

Undergraduate internships provide an opportunity to assist in administrative tasks as well as other campaign projects that meet the student's interests and abilities, including research on solitary confinement trends, web and database maintenance and/or design, drafting messaging documents, and conference planning. Internships are generally unpaid. Academic credit and funding can sometimes be arranged through your university or academic program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in justice and human rights.  Relevant coursework is highly desirable. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are required.

Internships for Graduate Students

AFSC’s STOPMAX Campaign offers academic semester and summer internships for undergraduate students in our Philadelphia office. Similar opportunities may be available in our Newark, Boston, Tucson, Ann Arbor and Oakland offices.

DESCRIPTION:

Graduate interns monitor prison conditions with a focus on prisoners in supermax prisons and isolation units, draft reports on human rights conditions, and engage in community organizing and advocacy efforts aimed at curtailing human rights violations. Internships are unpaid. Academic credit and/or funding may be sought through your University or academic program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in justice and human rights. Relevant coursework is highly desirable, and knowledge of foreign languages may be a plus. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are required.

Volunteers Needed

AFSC’s STOPMAX Campaign offers volunteer opportunities in our Philadelphia, Newark, Boston, Tucson, Ann Arbor and Oakland offices.

DESCRIPTION:

STOPMAX Campaign work varies depending on volunteer skills and interests.  Tasks may involve: answering mail from prisoners, media work, web and database maintenance and/or design, public education, community organizing, grant writing, research, etc.

Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in justice and human rights. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are helpful.
