About the Program

The Middle East Peace Education Program in the Southeastern Regional Office (SERO) was started in 1976, initially focusing primarily on the conflict in Israel and Palestine. Currently MEPEP also addresses other Middle East issues, with particular concern for the occupation of Iraq, the US interventions in the region, and the rights of peoples from the Middle East living in the US. The program builds on the 19th century Quaker presence in the region as well as on the work that the UN called on AFSC to do with refugees after the 1948 war.
The work of the AFSC Middle East programs seeks a just, balanced, and peaceful U.S. policy in the Middle East. The work is based on Quaker values and is guided by human right principles, United Nations resolutions, and international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. |
