Fostering Friendships: A Study Guide to Iraq for Elementary
and Middle School Teachers
American Friends Service Committee

This guide challenges popular stereotypes of Iraqis and offers an opportunity to better understand Iraqi history and recent U.S. policy on Iraq. The study guide provides teachers with the historical information necessary to teach about Iraq and offers nonviolent alternatives to war that reflect Quaker values. Students can learn about a Middle Eastern approach to conflict called Sulha (reconciliation), and will be encouraged to explore moral questions of war and peace and critique the idea of collective punishment. The guide accompanies the video One Million Postcards.
