A summer youth led institute that lets YOU serve your country by serving your community. Here is a break down of what the institute will be about!

We want self -motivated, driven students who are dedicated to social change and justice.  Applicants must posses a genuine passion for living a non-violent lifestyle and working in diverse work environments with students across various Chicago communities.

What: What are you going to do during the institute? For the first week you begin to get comfortable with American Friends Service Committee and the history of non-violent social justice movements.   Then there will be workshops on organizing for community change, fundraising to support your project and media training to push your ideas out to the mainstream. You will make a If I had a Trillion…. Video, with a FLIP camera to entre in a nation wide contest.

When: The Peace. Here..There…Everywhere Institute will run four weeks - June 21-July 15, 2010.

Where: Most activities will take place at or around our downtown office, located 637 S. Dearborn.  During the summer institute we will take trips all over Chicago to help students better understand the depth and scope of doing this work. Some proposed locations are the Veterans Administration Hospital, the Apple store, and various summer festivals.

Why: Why should you join other students this summer in this life changing experience? Chicago youth are under attack.  Between poor education, gang violence, gentrification ,housing and militarization  issues someone needs to do something about it and historically YOUth are behind these movements.  Peace. Here..There… Everywhere will give the selected candidates a forum to present their ideas on how to bring peace to the war against the poor and have adult allies that will help put these ideas into practice.
