Keeping the hope for peace alive

Keeping the hope for peace alive

Saturday evening, November 21, 2009, about 30 Iowans gathered in Des Moines to encourage President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden not to send more troops to Afghanistan. Biden was the keynote speaker for the Iowa Democratic Party’s annual Jefferson Jackson Day dinner, attended by 1000 people.

Activists passed out flyers with President Obama’s phone number and Web site. Two people who attended the dinner presented the flyers to Biden afterwards, and Biden said that he’s in agreement with our position.

Kathleen McQuillen, AFSC Iowa Program Coordinator, created a large “postcard banner” based on AFSC’s work in Chicago.
