Healing and Transformative Justice Program

Working from a paradigm of healing and transformative justice that seeks to restore wholeness to individuals and communities, the Program offers a deep knowledge based on issues of confinement and reentry.  Expertise is based on decades-long experience with individuals released from the New Jersey state and county correctional facilities; life skills classes in county jails; mentoring youth with first time offenses; and monitoring conditions of confinement throughout the country with an emphasis on human rights abuses, isolation and the use of devices of torture.  Staff assures that AFSC’s perspectives are present at policy and campaign discussions in New York and New Jersey as they provide technical assistance to coalitions, emerging groups, media and individuals throughout the country.
