
(This exhibit only displayed the local boots for the Philadelphia area and the Iraqi exhibit.) “Eyes Wide Open” was part of the joint Media and Providence Friends Peace Walk through Media. The end of the walk was at Providence Friends Meeting House, where peace quotes were displayed along the driveway, and a mini “Eyes Wide Open” exhibit was set up. Unable to bring all the boots, we displayed 25 pairs (representing local deaths) and an Iraqi display. Sunday morning the boots lay on the Meeting room floor during worship, and the vocal ministry was powerful and prolific. The link between the violence of the war and the violence in our society, demonstrated by the recent and nearby shootings of the Amish girls, was addressed. One woman who works with suicide victims was also led to speak about the overwhelming number of suicides which have occurred among vets returning from Iraq
