The goals of CCP basic training are to address the fears which keep us from taking risks and making changes and to help participants find the confidence, understanding, and nonviolence tools to actively and creatively address conflict, violence and injustice in ways that seek the well-being of all parties.

The innovative design of this national training program provides a holistic and practical foundation in spiritually-grounded active nonviolence. Participants come to recognize their own power for making personal and social changes without violence and improve their skills for respectful engagement with opponents, instead of confrontation that polarizes and demonizes.

The training is highly participatory and does not depend on reading a book or lectures. It draws upon the wisdom, experience and talents of all the participants and on the skills, knowledge and experience of two certified CCP facilitators. This popular education approach to learning was made famous by the Highlander School that trained civil rights and labor leaders and by Paulo Freire in Latin America.

Four Day Training: CCP is presented as a three day training – a total of 20 hours. Ideally it is done over three consecutive days.

Three Hour Orientation: We also offer a three hour CCP orientation for groups interested in finding out more about the three day training.

Number of participants: The ideal number for the training is between 12 and 20 people.

Costs: Cost per person for the training is: $120.00

What is Creating Cultures of Peace (CCP) Training?
CCP is a nationwide program in active peacemaking. It is about transforming violence at the personal, interpersonal and cultural/systemic levels. It goes beyond personal transformation to group and community transformation and action.

  • explore the nature of violence and its misuses
  • increase awareness of how active nonviolence can be used
  • understand social change movements as engines for change
  • consider the values of community
  • identify steps and tools for planning nonviolent actions
