Participate
Keep in touch with and meet your elected representatives to present your vision of a just peace between Palestinians and Israelis and/or an end to the US occupation of Iraq. Grassroots pressure is an important way to encourage your congressperson and senators to vote in favor of promoting peace. See the website of the US Campaign to End Israeli Occupation for issues that are to be voted on related to Israel and Palestine. The Friends Committee on National Legislation tracks legislation on Iraq and other issues.
Host an olive oil gathering to introduce your friends, neighbors, or other communities to Palestinian olive oil and the realities of occupation facing Palestinian farmers. AFSC can assist you in hosting a gathering on your own—or someone from our office can make a presentation, and all you would need to do is provide the location and do the inviting. For more details, see our web page on Palestinian Olive Oil.
Have your place of worship become involved in a Prayer Vigil for Peace in the Middle East.
In addition to focusing worshipers' prayers and attention to the conflict in the Middle East, the vigil is also an opportunity for further education about the situation through speakers, discussion groups, or videos.
Invite your friends and neighbors to see a video in your living room or invite members in your community to a showing of a video in a public place. A list of possible films can be found on the AFSC website.
Invite a speaker to your community to give a talk about the situation in Israel/Palestine. A list of possible speakers can be found on the AFSC website. In addition, we may be able to send someone from our office or recommend a local speaker.
Join a delegation to Palestine and Israel.
Delegations, or accompaniment programs, are a great way to travel to Palestine and Israel and work for peace.
Support
Volunteer for the Middle East Program. Currently, the greatest areas of need for volunteers consist of staffing AFSC tables at events, maintaining our events calendar on the Web, and cataloging Middle East resources such as books and videos. Call our office, or email mepeacela@afsc.org if you are interested.
Join our Program Committee. Like much of AFSC's work, the Middle East Peace Education Program is guided by a committee composed of individuals from many walks of life who have taken an interest in our work and share values of peace, justice, nonviolence and a belief in the worth of every person. Committee membership also involves a commitment to volunteer for the efforts that you help to plan. Please contact the Middle East Program Coordinator if you are interested.
Donate. Your contribution helps us continue our work to educate local communities about the Middle East and share our principles for a just peace in Israel and Palestine, and an end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Send checks made out to AFSC to our office (attention: Middle East Program) and write "Middle East Program" in the memo line of the check.
