AFSC Marches for Peace in Downtown Los Angeles

January 27, 2007
The American Friends Service Committee participated in the January 27 Coalition that brought hundreds of people to the streets of downtown Los Angeles that day to march and rally against the war in Iraq. The demonstration coincided with others in San Francisco and Washington, DC that day and, in all, hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life voiced their hopes for peace and the immediate return of US troops from Iraq.
The AFSC contingent made its presence in the march known with two banners: one carried the message of its Wage Peace campaign--"Not one more death. Not one more dollar."--and the other was a Quaker banner reading "There is no Way to Peace. Peace is the Way." (In addition to these messages, the banners served as good beacons for AFSC supporters to find each other.)
The next march in Los Angeles will take place on Saturday, March 17, starting at Hollywood and Vine at noon. The AFSC will be participating in this march and will also take part in its planning.
Nationally, AFSC has launched a new website called Friends for Peace. There, you can download a sign for the next march which you can personalize with a word or two, followed by the phrase "for peace." (AFSC will also have these signs available at the March 17 demonstration in Hollywood.) Currently at Friends for Peace, you can see photos of people with their personalized signs at the January 27 march against the war in Washington DC. Upload your own photos from the next march!
