Listener's Way
With origins in the anti-nuclear movement of the late 70s and 80s, Listener's Way is a method of interactive communication designed to help people develop the skills they need to talk to people about their values. Through listening, questioning, empathizing, and advocating, participants learn to be effective and persuasive when dialoging with others who may be skeptical or hostile to perspectives that emphasize peace and social justice.

The method also helps overcome emotional barriers, according to workshop co-presenter and AFSC staffer Steven Gibson.
"I find it useful in talking to conservatives," Gibson said. "It makes me feel comfortable and confident because I know I have the tools I need when difficult questions come up—when emotional responses come up with the person I'm talking to."
