BOOTS OF THE FALLEN

This poem was written by John Clifton Davis of Montclair New Jersey who became inspired to write it after viewing the boots at the Unitarian Church of Montclair’s Memorial Day Service.

Once they were used.
Now they are useless.
Once they were filled.
Now they are empty.
Too many wounded.
Too many killed.
Too many tears.
Far too many.
Yet as we see these boots before us,
We see those who wore them standing before us.
Forever proud!  Forever tall!
Our unforgettable valiant victims of war!
