
AFSC staff attorneys have extensive experience representing asylum seekers before the US Citizenship and Immigration Service, the Immigration Court, and in detention centers. Attorneys have represented asylum seekers from many countries including Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Bolivia, Brazil, Burundi, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Mauritania, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan and Togo. In addition to general asylum cases, staff have special expertise in representing asylum seekers who fear persecution because of their gender or sexual orientation. Staff are available to provide training and mentoring to attorneys representing asylum cases pro bono.
