"Know Your Rights" Presentations to Immigrant Communities:
Immigrant Rights Program staff provide informational presentations
to immigrant communities, including immigrants
detained in county jails and other detention facilities. These
presentations include a basic overview of current immigration law as well as information about the rights and
responsibilities of undocumented immigrants. Staff provide informational presentations on the
intersection of labor law and immigrant rights, the rights of
undocumented workers including day laborers, domestic violence
and immigration, and on the enforcement of immigration
laws.
Public Education Presentations
Immigrant Rights Program staff provide educational presentations
on current immigration issues to faith-based groups, school
groups, social service providers, and other community-based organizations.
Presentations include overviews of immigration
laws, with emphasis on detention of immigrants and changes in
immigration law enforcement since September 11. AFSC
also offers screenings of videos with immigration-related themes,
including Taking Root/Echando Raices, Chasing Freedom,
and Asylum, followed by discussion.
Training
Immigrant Rights Program staff provide training to attorneys
and non-profit organizations on immigration law and procedures,
and to social service providers on immigrant eligibility for
various benefits, including public assistance.
Media
AFSC Immigrant Rights Program staff are available to respond
to media inquiries on all immigration related issues.
