Immigrant Rights Program
Throughout its history, AFSC has stood with immigrants and refugees in the United States and throughout the world. AFSC holds that immigrants offer constructive talent and vital energy to their new country and communities. It supports the rights and dignity of all immigrants, regardless of their legal status.
Immigrant Children
The American Friends Service Committee
provides legal representation for immigrants --
including children who are in the United States
by themselves.
Our Work
| An immigrant family speaks with AFSC staff. |
Based in Newark, New Jersey, the AFSC
Immigrant Rights Program works to bring the
voices of immigrants whose lives are impacted
by current immigration policies to the
forefront of conversations about what our
immigration policies should be at the local,
state, and national levels. In pursuit of our
belief that impacted communities should have a
leadership role in advocacy efforts, we provide
leadership training to encourage members of
immigrant communities to participate in actions
to support more humane policies. We
conduct educational presentations for immigrant
groups and allies as we believe that
communities must have access to information in
order to better organize and advocate on their
own behalf. AFSC also offers legal services for
individuals facing deportation and to assist in
family reunification through naturalization and
other immigration applications.
AFSC's Immigrant Rights Program runs an email listserv providing a daily digest of news, regional events, and other information on immigration, refugee, and asylee issues.
