To Call for Just & Humane Immigration Reform And an End to Unjust Detention
[Aurora, CO] – On Monday, February 1, people of faith, students, community leaders and neighbors will unite at 30th Avenue and Peoria Street, the sight of Aurora’s Immigrant Internment Center. They will celebrate St. Brigid, listen to the lyrical talents for three spoken word poets and the details of immigrants’ disheartening wait for Congress to prioritize just and humane immigration reform. They will call on policy makers to take leadership, close the Internment Center and end the wait for millions of people to be reunited with their families. They will unite under the banner Love Knows No Borders, No Walls.
“Throughout February, we are reminded of how our Love Knows No Borders, No Walls, and in particular, on February 1, we celebrate one of the patron saints of Ireland, St. Brigid,” states Seth Donovan, member of the House for All Sinners & Saints. Donovan will give the opening Prayer for St. Brigid’s Day, a woman was revered for her dedication and compassion for those in distress or those who had been wronged. “Like her, we recognize the dignity of all families and communities and work to fix our broken immigration system. For these reasons, we demand an end to detention and for new immigration laws which respect human dignity.”
Also, to honor this patron saint of poets, three talented lyricists will share their talents. Nationally renowned Molina Solei & Aju, joined by Maurice Ka of the Pan African Arts Society. Closing the evening’s vigil with Volver, Volver, a famous Spanish love ballad to demonstrate that our thoughts are with those interned. Additionally, there will be an opportunity for everyone to sign Valentines for those interned throughout the evening.
