Letters from Gaza

July 12, 2006

Dear friends and colleagues,

I am really thankful for all kind support and solidarity you have shown and for thinking of us at this hard moment.  I am sure that all of you feel worried about what is happening here. I tried to send you this email few days ago but unfortunately the problem with the electricity did not help. Today, I am just getting back to you.

With the severe destruction of everything, the situation is even getting worse.  I will not talk much about people’s suffering and humiliation. There is a real crime going on here - attacking civilians and killing children. According to hospital reports there has been use of chemical weapons.

I am deeply concerned about young people we are working with. How is this going to affect them? Every day they are coming with new stories about their friends, neighbors, relatives who were killed by the missiles. How many stories they will bring and how will they cope with them?

They are very brave. They come from the areas of high risk and put their lives in danger to have their meetings and prepare for Popular Achievement Festival. They do their work with the community and indeed we did not stop working in any of the areas -- in the north or south.

At this time when all of us are under the heavy burden of the situation -- no sleeping at night and working hard for long hours during the day -- we feel better by being with people and realizing that they want to do be active and pro-active.

We will be having a national event on Saturday for about 250 children in five governorates. The main purpose of this activity, which will be carried by coaches and participants, is to support children in Gaza Strip. This project was really appreciated by all coaches, partners and participants and they loved organizing it.

We have to feel proud that life is continuing in spite of death that is surrounding us. Nothing stops life.

Many thanks to all of you and be sure that we are good people who deserve better life. We should keep all our strong efforts to prove our existence and save our kids

Many thanks from all staff here.
