The Community Advocates for Family Empowerment (CAFFE) Project
 |
| Spring 2007 CAFFE Women’s Leadership Workshop graduating class. |
The Community Advocates for Family Empowerment (CAFFE) Project works to assist low-income people in advocating for themselves and others when facing income related emergencies, to advocate for legal and regulatory measures that will lift people out of poverty, and to increase understanding of low income issues among people without first hand knowledge of poverty.
CAFFE has two main projects; an eight-week Leadership Development Workshops for Women, and one-hour advocacy trainings for people utilizing social services. CAFFE also provides direct assistance to low income families having difficulty with the public assistance system.
The women at the heart of this program have had the experience of being on welfare, of having trouble with the social services system, or of being denied services when they needed them. They share their hard-earned wisdom with other people who find themselves in similar situations today. These women are developing their leadership skills and moving into new roles in their communities.
