The Upper New York State Area program covers territory in Central, Northern, and Western New York State, as well as the upper part of the Hudson River Valley.  The mission of the Upper New York State Area American Friends Service Committee is to advance peace and social justice through community involvement.  Recognizing that social change is never simple we support movement towards long term solutions through a series of short term goals and objectives developed with local communities.  Our work is based on the belief in the transforming power of love, recognition of the worth of each individual and a commitment to nonviolence.

To this end, the Upper New York State Area office operates a youth empowerment project which provides young people with realistic alternatives to violence; a community advocates project to assist low-income people in advocating for themselves; and an environmental justice project which supports the Mohawks of Akwesasne traditional way of life.
