Why LGBT communities have a stake
in criminal justice issues
In the wake of hate violence and harassment, LGBT communities seeking justice often endorse hate crimes bills emphasizing penalty enhancements and other "get tough on crime" measures.
AFSC works to build greater understanding of the intersection of hate violence and the violence of the criminal justice system, emphasizing that successful anti-violence strategies must address both. We approach our work in ways that recognize the dynamic interrelationships of race, class, sexuality, and gender/gender identity.
