Israeli Conscientious Objector Profiles

Michal StolerMichal Stoler

My name is Michal Stoler. I am 17 years old, from Tel-Aviv, Israel.

For 37 years Israel has been controlling the lives of more than 3 million Palestinians. Though Israeli speaks about peace, defense and democracy, Israel is denying basic rights from people every day. I don't want to be part of policy which I believe is based on hate, stupidity, and racism. I don't want to serve the Israel occupation. Therefore I refuse to serve. Although the occupation of Palestinian territories is my main reason for refusal, I also object to violence, the discrimination of women in the IDF, and more.

I was drafted at the beginning of February. I am about to face the "Conscience Committee" which will decide whether or not to release me from military service as a conscience objector.

I am currently part of a new group of high school students who refuse to serve the occupation. We are the new generation of 'Shministim' [this means high school senior in Hebrew].
