Urban Citizen Insecurity and Conflict Transformation – Meeting in Port-au-Prince May 19-20, 2008

  • AFSC convened a meeting in Haiti May 19-20, 2008 with 15 participants from Haiti;  4 from other countries of the Caribbean (Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana and Dominican Republic) and 4 AFSC US based staff. The goal was to explore conceptual frameworks and practices for addressing citizen insecurity and conflict transformation in urban settings.
     
  • Main conclusions of the meeting were: how the gender dimension can be included more systematically in the conceptual framework, as well as in conflict analysis and program implementation;

  •  How the issues around justice and security need to be more fully developed in the conceptual framework – i.e. trauma, healing, victim-perpetrator cycles, justice system or insufficiency thereof; and

  • Similarities and differences among Conflict Transformation work in different places in the Caribbean
