Haiti Office
Urban Citizen Insecurity and
Conflict Transformation – Meeting in
Port-au-Prince May 19-20, 2008
- AFSC convened a meeting
in Haiti May 19-20, 2008 with 15 participants
from Haiti; 4 from other countries of the
Caribbean (Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana and
Dominican Republic) and 4 AFSC US based staff.
The goal was to explore conceptual frameworks
and practices for addressing citizen insecurity
and conflict transformation in urban
settings.
- Main
conclusions of the meeting were: how the gender
dimension can be included more systematically
in the conceptual framework, as well as in
conflict analysis and program
implementation;
- How the
issues around justice and security need to be
more fully developed in the conceptual
framework – i.e. trauma, healing,
victim-perpetrator cycles, justice system or
insufficiency thereof;
and
- Similarities and
differences among Conflict Transformation work
in different places in the Caribbean
