Toledo, OH
November 9-11 , 2004

Well over 1,000 pairs of boots comprised the Toledo installation.
On Veteran’s Day 2004, Eyes Wide Open graced the grounds of the Lucas County Courthouse in Toledo. The total of 1,134 pairs of boots had a special significance: it was the first time that the number of U.S. military casualties reached a thousand more than the 34 who had been killed when President Bush announced “Mission accomplished!” in May of 2003. The death toll climbed rapidly in November, due to the bitter battle of Falluja.
