Dreams and Nightmares

Dreams and Nightmares is a memorial to Iraqis who have lost their lives in the war and occupation. With photographs, names and personal stories, it conveys the unseen side of the war in Iraq — the tragedy being experienced by everyday Iraqis. Careful estimates put Iraqi deaths at more than at 655,000* — most of them civilians.

Raed JarrourRaed Jarrar is an Iraqi who lived in Iraq during the sanctions and parts of the war. He has been working to collect the names of Iraqi civilians who have been killed in the conflict. "There are other channels in supporting Iraq and the Iraqi people other than leaving the troops there."

Dr. Dahlia Wasfi
Dr. Dahlia Wasfi Dr. Wasfi is an Iraqi-American who recently visited her family in Basrah and Baghdad in 2006. Upon her return, she has spoken out against the negative impact of the U.S. invasion on the Iraqi people and the need to end the occupation.

* A study by Johns Hopkins University and Al Mustansiriya University researchers finds that between 420,000 and 790,000 Iraqis have died as a result of war and political violence since the beginning of the US invasion in March 2003.
It was published in The Lancet medical journal on October 11, 2006.
